Ninety Mile Beach

Ninety Mile Beach in the far north of New Zealand has been described as "a beach at the edge of the world". The length is closer to 90 km than ninety miles and is a wonderfully empty stretch of coast with spellbinding surf. The surfcasting here is legendary with snapper, kahawai and trevally among the target species.

Maori legend tells us that the spirits travelled this beach to Cape Reinga where they left for their trip to the Polynesian homeland of Haiwaiki. Today you can be driven in a coach to gaze out from the point where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific ocean.
