A unique wilderness adventure !

Fiordland Ecology Holidays is, first and foremost, a small owner operated business dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism through environmental education and supporting research.

Our trips cover the New Zealand South Island's World Heritage Fiordland National Park. Scheduled overnight to 8 day trips are on our 'scheduled cruises' page (link below). These can include visits to Doubtful Sound, Breaksea and Dusky Sounds, Preservation Inlet and Stewart Island.  Also the northern fiords of Milford, George, and Nancy Sounds.

Because of our experience (Lance has been on the Fiordland coast for 39 years) we can promise a safe and memorable trip.  You will learn about our rain forest, our marine mammals, birds and the Fiordland Crested penguin.  Down in Dusky Sound you will visit Captain Cook’s sites and hear the story of the first conservationist in New Zealand, Richard Henry. On every trip we run out of time, there is so much to do and see, and so many stores to tell.

Our business is based on environmental protection, and education is a key component to our trips.  We place a strong emphasis on nature and conservation. By joining us on a trip you are directly helping us fund research projects in Fiordland. Many of our passengers come with us because of our commitment to the environment, Lance’s knowledge and the comfort of the Breaksea Girl. We have our own native revegetation project in Manapouri, which partially offsets our carbon footprint. In addition to this we have operated a Research Fund for 12 years which has assisted many scientists and students working in Fiordland, and the subantarctic islands. Over $350,000.00 of financial and logistical support has been made available to scientists and students.

Research projects we have been, and are involved in:   Monitoring populations of weevils, skinks, albatross, seals, marine research, dolphins, DNA work with whales, predator eradication, reforestation, and work with New Zealand native birds.  Over $80,000 has been donated from our passengers in support of the Pomona Island restoration project, see link to their site.

Want something more personal? The Breaksea Girl is available for private charter. We cater for up to 12 passengers, plus crew, and can be away for up to 21 days. Charter rate on request.  We do not run one day trips.

We offer a money back guarantee if you are not fully satisfied with your trip.
