Le Macassar - Picardy (Somme) Northern France

Named after the type of ebony used for the art deco panelling of this imposing property's large drawing room, Le Macassar is a new addition to a growing number of French Maison d'hotes -- properties seeking to combine the comfort, relaxation and informality of a private home, with the service and attention to detail of a luxury hotel.
Le Macassar sits on the main square of the town of Corbie, near Amiens, nestled in the Somme river valley in the Picardie region of Northern France. Synonymous with the battles of the First World War, the many impressive war memorials located near by are the only reminders in the tranquil rolling countryside of today. Today visitors come, not only to view the memorials, but to enjoy the area's outdoor pursuits as well as a string of impressive gothic cathedrals and abbeys. Amiens cathedral (15 minutes away) is the largest gothic cathedral in the world and a Unesco world heritage site.
The large property boasts original art deco and art nouveau interiors in which the current owners and your hosts during your stay have found a sympathetic setting for their collection of art and furniture. Nevertheless, Le Macassar is not a museum and we aim to strike a balance between comfort and devotion to style. Guests are encouraged to enjoy all of the public rooms as well as the large, formal courtyard garden.
There are four distinct "lounge" areas on the ground floor; the Majorelle room attributed to the famous turn of the century cabinet maker Louis Majorelle; the Moroccan salon resplendent in elaborate tiles and moulded ceiling; the 'Gallery' with its deco macassar panelling and grand piano as well as the dining room where breakfast is served (at a time to suit you, not us!). At the top of the house, guests can enjoy the original art deco library, now also home to a magnificent French billiard table.
Guest rooms and suites are spacious and comfortably furnished with a mix of antique and modern furniture, high quality beds, feather pillows and duvets, decadent en-suite bathrooms (several with whirlpool baths), fireplaces, CD players and tea/coffee making facilities.
