A warm welcome to L 'Etoile du Port - a beautifully and recently converted cognac warehouse from 1632, on a quayside on the outskirts of the medieval market town of Saint Jean D'Angely, right at the heart of the Charente Maritime.
All rooms overlook this unique river and lakeside setting and have been recently refurbished in a luxurious and eclectic style by the English owners (who are also happy to provide free help and advice with local agents and house hunting!).
The aim of L ‘Etoile du Port is to provide relaxation, inspiration and value.
Guests are invited to make use of the impressive but relaxed "ballroom" salon whilst snacks and a full continental breakfast can be served in your room, in the garden or in the salon itself.
Central to the Charente Maritime, this is the perfect location being near the A10 for those wishing to explore the beautiful coast, the ancient towns or typical countryside around.
Things to do:
Being based in Saint Jean easily enables every day to be unique. For example, a day in the sophisticated La Rochelle, to walk mile upon mile of unspoilt sandy beaches, to exploring markets and restaurants specialising in the local gastronomy of both sea and land, to lazy days cycling and picnicking in the rolling countryside, visiting the world-famous Roman and mediaeval architecture of Saintes and the "Saintonge" throughout the region, Europe's largest zoo on the Ile d'Oleron, the large seaside town and casino at Royan, retracing the local Compostsella trail, or living the high life on the Parisian and film star hideaway on the Ile de Re.
In medieval Saint Jean itself you can find class 1 fishing, a large number of bars, restaurants, beauty treatments, shops, leisure activities for all ages including boating, kayaking, racket sports, swimming etc, a cinema, gallery and museum, and a Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday market to name but just a few (see www.angley.net for more!). |
