| ne of Townsville's
earliest residences, The Rocks is a well known and loved building in the
area. It was built as a Banker's Residence in 1888, became a hospital
in the early 1900s and operated as an upmarket guesthouse during the 1930s.
The house
became a hospital again during World War 11 when it was occupied by
the American Army. A legacy of this period is the bomb shelter out the
back. The post war years saw The Rocks function as a budget guesthouse.
In 1996, the present owners completed extensive renovations to restore
The Rocks to the glory of its heyday.
