Taranaki is also known for its gardens, both public and private. Most are open throughout the year, some by appointment. November is the world famous Rhododendron Festival which attracts many out-of-towners. With December and January comes the Festival of Lights, where at night you’ll witness a fairyland. Also in the region you’ll find small wineries, art galleries, a seal colony, museums, surfing beaches, canoeing, horse riding, game fishing and many crafts people including potters, wood turners and gemologists.
Watch the sunrise from your bed? It’s true! Even though we are on the westcoast of New Zealand, we face north. Often the morning sky is lit up in all shades of pink reflecting on the deep blue waters.
A modern, full-equipped kitchen allows you to prepare your own meals if you desire. Breakfast is optional. If you choose to provide your own breakfast, your cost is adjusted. The bedroom has a double bed with a private bathroom. A comfortable sofabed in the lounge sleeps two.
Situated on the Tasman Sea, we offer you complete privacy and quietness, surrounded with beauty. This peaceful cottage is nestled amongst acres of landscaped gardens and lawns, with a new sunken garden now being developed. The temperatures are rarely below 50 in the winter or above 80 in the summer.
The region of Taranaki is known for its mountain, Mt Egmont (also known as Mt Taranaki). There are well-marked bush walks and a choice of trails that take from 15 minutes to 5 days, the latter being the “Round the Mountain” track. The views from the top, 8,260 feet, are spectacular.
